First Impression, Golden Rose Velvet Matte Lipstick

Golden Rose is a Turkish makeup brand, produced by Erkul Cosmetics, that hit Malaysian shores last year in December. Since they are a Turkish based company the products are Muslim-friendly. Erkul Cosmetics have been in the cosmetics business for over 30 years (founded in 1983). They have been available online for purchase at since December 2014 and their products are very affordable. I got this lipstick (along with some others) as a prize for entering a contest by Colours Cosmetics Malaysia.

I used flash on this picture because the shiny text on the packaging was too reflective and could not be seen clearly without flash.

My thoughts:

It is a matte finish lipstick that has the distinctive vanilla scent. It is not completely matte as with the name, ‘velvet matte’. The shade I have is VML12 (it does not have a specific name) which is a lovely pink colour that will flatter many skin tones especially deep tanned Indian skin tone like mine. It is opaque, goes on smoothly and is creamy. The scent is not too overpowering. It doesn’t dry the lips out like a matte liquid lipstick does, however, it isn’t very long wearing and it is not smudge-proof.

I am loving this lipstick and it costs about MYR 23.30 (plus GST). It is dermatologically tested, paraben-free, Muslim-friendly and not tested on animals.

  1. Hi Hari! Ash here 🙂

Thanks for dropping by blog. and yes, it’s Rebel Bouquet, not Bloom :p But same thing la. Upon bringing it home, I knew I got sucked into buying it because of the floral font design of the plastic wrapper! Dang, it would be so much better if those letterings are really on the tube itself!

I see facebook ad for this brand a lot! But they may need to improve on the visual advertisement part. The copy is engaging enough.. Halal brand (ticked), Made in Europe (ticked), inexpensive (ticked) but somehow the picture is just..i don’t know, doesn’t spur me to buy. If you’re going to pay for advertisement, might as well invest in a better creative direction, that’s all I’m saying. hehe. sorry, advertising people speaking.

It looks very much like Essence brand. 🙂 And yeah, I think that colour would look good on medium / darker skin. ^__^ I love brights but lots of people seem to like to see me with softer lip colour.. HAH! haha

Btw, I’m completely clueless on how to follow you. I don’t use wordpress and subscribing via email can be a hassle sometimes (because honestly, who checks for updates one by one via email) so I kinda added your blog to bloglovin.

wow, this is getting long! whoops, sorry. Didn’t mean to write a novel on your comment section.hee

    • Hey Ash! Thanks for reading and commenting!

Essence happens to one of my favourites too!

And yes, I do agree with you about the Golden Rose brand; visual advertising is what makeup is all about anyway and theirs seem somehow very underwhelmingly generic. However, this lipstick is pretty gorgeous and they have 32 shades in this Velvet Matte line.

I am still new at WordPress and I am using their free version. I’ll look out to see if I can find a ‘follow’ widget for non wordpress users. Adding me to bloglovin works too I guess.

Thanks again for commenting! And I always welcome novel-length comments, especially when they’re written so eloquently!
