5 Little Things in Makeup That Bring Me Joy

Emily Noel’s video (below) inspired me to do this post. She did this quite a while ago and I have wanted to do this for a while now but never got around to doing it. I urge you to watch the video because it really does preface this entire post.

These do not actually help makeup application but are happy triggers; some kind of simple joy that emanates every time it is realised.

Some of you may go, owh yeaaaaa while nodding your heads, some of you may not. 😛 Either way, do enjoy this light-hearted post!

1. Soft brushes

Don’t you just love the way soft brushes feel on your face? Every time I open my makeup storage, I have this urge to pick up my softest brush and just run it on the back of my hand to appreciate its softness. The softest brush I have has to be my The Body Shop blusher brush. So soft!!!

The bristles up-close.

2. Scented lip products

I will, occasionally, just pick up my Collection Cream Puff or my NYX SMLC, open it and just take a whiff of that delicious cupcake scent. Sometimes that can be the very purchase trigger, the whole reason you make that decision to buy!

3. Frosted glass foundation bottles

I love the feeling of touching frosted glass. Something about the matte surface gives it a luxurious feeling, more so if its a frosted glass foundation bottle. Some examples are the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and the Marc Jacobs’ foundation. The one I own is the Sephora Collection 10 HR Wear foundation.

4. Sample size products.

There’s something about tiny samples that I love! Miniature makeup; what’s not to love about miniature makeup!!??? I have sample size Tarte and Too Faced mascaras and also a Benefit Pore-fessional primer (picture not attached).

5. First sight of the pan

As opposed to Emily Noel (in the video) I actually love the first sight of the pan. The pan is the container that hold powder/cream/cake products. I love it when that silver (or whatever colour the pan is) peeks through when you’ve been using a product for a while. A feeling of accomplishment just fills my being.

What are your simple makeup joys?

Hope you guys enjoyed this post!

This is my 99th post and I have some exciting news for my 100th! Stay tuned!

A big thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey with FiercePaint!

THANK YOU!

    • Yes! Free samples! I love them too… Sephora Malaysia periodically offers ‘bring in an old makeup item for exchange of a deluxe sample of something new’ and I always grab that opportunity to exchange an empty product or even ones I didn’t like.
Thanks for reading, following, liking and commenting Shailaja! 😀 ❤ ❤ ❤
It's nice to get to know Indian beauty bloggers!

    • Of course! Perfume samples! I love them too! I had this one Sean John perfume that I held on to for so long and didn’t have the heart to use because the teeny tiny spray bottle was just so freaking adorable!

  1. What brings me joy about makeup, hmmm?

    1) Shade names.
The quirkier, the better. Like I legit wanted to buy a Sephora lipgloss called Kiss The Moon because ‘moon’ was a cute pet name of mine. Putting something with significant or great names makes me really happy for some reason.

    2) Packaging.
Cute, sleek, modern, minimalist… i love them all! You can sell me the exact same colour… just put them in different packaging.. xD

    3) Hit pan
Of course. With the amount of makeup we makeup junkies have, getting the most out of our money is key! 😀

    4) Shiny, shimmery, splendiddd
I can pretty much dream about wearing soft shimmery blush at night. I love it so much! A cheaper option would be Makeup Revolution’s Blushing Hearts. I recently splurge on a Bobbi Brown Bronzing powder (that looks more like a blush) and woohooo… can’t get over how pretty it is!

    • Hey Ash, I’ve missed you on the blogosphere!
Shade names, yes! They’re a nice happy trigger too.
Have you seen the names on Catrice and Essence eyeshadows? The Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadows have the coolest names! The two I have are called Mauves Like Jagger and What Do You Sea? (yes, with the question mark too!), they’re cleverly worded rock song titles! How cool is that!!!???

  2. I love Emily Noel – she’s such a makeup addict! Only she would focus on these little joys about makeup. 😛 I agree so much with the idea of GETTING to do makeup rather than HAVING to do makeup – it’s so enjoyable and relaxing!
I do NOT yet own a magnetic lipstick closure, I need to get one pronto! 😀
And I agree with you about hitting pan – SO satisfying!
Great topic and I might have to do this one of these days. 🙂

    • I would love to read your version of it! 😀
I think the NARS Audacious lipsticks have those magnetic closures and they’re apparently some of the best lipsticks money can buy. Perhaps that can kick off the end of your “No Buy” stint.
It’s funny when I hear girls say they can’t wait to take their makeup off because, as irritating as makeup can be on the face and as bad it is to allow makeup to sit on the skin for a prolonged period of time, I am ALWAYS a little reluctant to remove my makeup! 🙂

  3. Totally agree with you! Mine would be cute packaging and scented products! I know there are many who dislikes fragrance in their product but i love it! can’t resist if it’s smells like cupcake right? 😀

  4. Great post! I could completely relate to all of these but especially scented beauty products, they bring extra joy to the application. I received a glitter lip balm at Christmas and it smells (and tastes) of berries, so scrumptious!

  5. Highlighters and crazily pigmented eyeshadows bring me great joy and satisfaction!! (especially highlighters)! Like I cannot stop saying “oh my god” everything I swatch them on my hand. Lol. I also enjoy the feeling when I see my brushes are all clean! ;P

    • That’s nice… But all that you have said does, in fact, help make up application… Clean brushes and pigmentation are all things that are important in making your makeup look good. I am talking about things that don’t actually contribute to makeup application in any way… But of course, pigmented shadows and highlighters are absolutely irresistible! 😀 😀 😀
