Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray Review

I always thought I’d keep FiercePaint exclusively to drugstore products and use LuxePaint (sibling blog of FiercePaint; link here) instead for the higher end products. However, I post very sporadically on LuxePaint and so FiercePaint will now feature high end products as well! *insert kids “yeay” sound*

Setting sprays are typically used as a finisher to lock makeup into place and sometime to give the face a more natural look by reducing the powdery appearance of having layered products.

This is the Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray.

Description: It is a clear liquid that dries down on the face to lock makeup into place. Kind of like what hairspray is to hairstyling. It is contained in a spray bottle to allow proper application. Comes in 30 ml (1 fluid ounce) for the travel size and 118 ml (4 fluid ounces) for the full sized bottle. I have the travel size one in this post.

Where to buy: Sephora Malaysia (online and stores).

Price: MYR 55 (30ml), MYR 125 (118ml)

I used the spray on my face in this makeup look of mine (post link here) and it would typically last me 4 to 5 hours before showing signs of fading. Even when it starts fading my makeup would still look good.

Pros:

Easy to use.

Doesn’t have a strong scent.

Effective (I used it once for almost 12 hours, I danced and sweat and was surprised to see my under eye makeup still in place!!!).

Does not feel uncomfortable on the face (although you may initially feel the face tightening slightly as the spray dries).

Dries pretty fast for a flawless matte finish (gives dry skin a more skin-like look as well).

Sensitive skin friendly.

Cons:

Pricey (this is going to be a con of every high end product).

Upon initial spraying, makeup may slightly melt (can be remedied by spraying lesser and letting that dry before going in for more).

Rating:

9.5/10

Despite the obvious con (to a cheapo like me), I will ABSOLUTELY repurchase this over and over and over again! My single most favourite makeup discovery of 2015! I love love LOVE this!

  1. Hi Hari, I don’t know if I’m using it correctly, but my under eye crease with or without this product… Might have sprayed to much on my face and realise that my makeup starts to fade a little after a few hours. Might need to try it again…

    • Oh no, really? Does your foundation last longer without this?
About your undereye creasing, perhaps try using lesser product and try Wayne Goss’ buffing technique?

      • Surprisingly the foundation did last longer without the setting spray. That’s why I wasn’t too sure if I used it correctly or sprayed too much. Will check out Wayne’s technique soon, but I do find that baking helps with the undereye.

  2. Thanks Hari, I was hoping you would say it sucked to be honest! Now I’m going to have to buy one 🙂 My E.L.F. setting spray has almost run out, and I have been eye this for ages!

  3. I love this stuff too. I accidentally purchased the ‘de-slick’ version once, kept it, as I thought maybe it would be a more powerful version..it isn’t as good. I have a load of new UD products to review. I think I’ll do ‘a week in UD’…I do not know how long you have been purchasing the brand but I STILL have an Urban Cowboy in their original shadow packaging and a couple of their flavored, sparkle powder boxes. HAHAHA! Don’t ask me how long I’ve had these! HA! 😉
