Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Matte Lipstick Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

This is a review for the Color Sensational Bold Matte Lipstick and I have the shade Mat6 (Maroon Red) which is the darkest red colour in the line. There are 4 other shades in this range, Mat2 (Sugar Pink), Mat 4 (Vivid Coral), Mat5 (Bold Red), and Mat7 (Nude Beige). I would advice deep, warm, Indian skin toned people like myself to avoide Mat2 and Mat7; these two colours will wash you out! I chose this colour because a deep red colour on the lips is a common constitute of classical Indian dance makeup.

This is another picture taken in which I was wearing the lipstick. However, its tiny because this is a cropped picture from a group shot. You can still see that the lipstick is still there. This picture was taken AFTER a performance which attests to its staying power.

Description: It is a long lasting matte lipstick that is devoid of taste and scent. There’s 4.2g of product in it; similar to the other Color Sensational lipsticks. The shade Mat6 is a deep maroon red colour which will flatter many skin tones albeit difference in intensity. It also does not appear completely matte.

Price: Anywhere between MYR 17 to 32 depending on where you buy and factoring in discounts.

Where to buy: Anywhere there’s a Maybelline booth set up; Watsons, Guardian, Caring, Tesco, Aeon…

Pros:

It glides on smoothly and does not tug on the lips AT ALL!

Highly HIGHLY pigmented!

VERY opaque; it is a swipe-one-layer-to-get-colour-payoff kind of lipstick.

Long lasting and as you have already seen, it leaves a stain on the lips.

Comfortable on the lips.

Does not emphasize fine lines and dry patches on the lips.

Cons:

It is not smudge proof and hence will transfer.

When wearing dark lipsticks that transfer, lipstick stain on the teeth is a highly possible phenomenon, as is with this lipstick.

Rating:

8.6/10

I simply LOVE this lipstick! When using it I’ll usually do the suck-a-finger trick to remove excess product from my inner lips to avoid teeth stains!

  1. That shade looks great on you, Hari! I need to avoid Maybelline makeup counter at the moment.. So many things that caught my eyes! I saw a colour called Red Porcelain the other day. Not sure what line it is from but it’s temptingly beautiful.

    • Thank you so much Ash!!! Hasn’t The Nudes palette tempted you yet??? I am so skeptical because the beauty YouTuber Tati (Glam Life Guru) didn’t like it and Dani (Coffee Break with Dani) referred to it as a, I-won’t-run-to-the-drugstore-to-get-it kinda product.

      • I won’t run to get it either…honestly. Because the shades aren’t nothing we’ve never seen before and plus, I have a few neutral palettes that need some loving. But I would probably get it if I’m a beginner with no neutral palettes at all. Maybelline’s products seldom disappoint.

      • And I have confessed before that I don’t really like online shopping no matter how much of a convenience it is, UNLESS I can’t find it anywhere else. The thing is cruelty free makeup brands are mostly high end ones here in Malaysia. And those drugstore ones are very elusive and yes, like you said, would cost a lot more here than there…

    • Thank you so much Stashy! Owh, yes, I love it! I actually have the MAC Viva Glam 1 lipstick and this is a dupe for that! Only difference is that the MAC one is a little more matte.
