Unpopular Opinions Makeup Tag – FOMO Compelled Me!

After seeing the FIFTH beauty blogger do this tag, I succumbed. So here it is.
First read it on A Brash Attitude – A Cruelty-Free Beauty & Skincare Blog (link here). Hi Jodi, this was long overdue wasn’t it?

1. POPULAR MAKEUP PRODUCT YOU DON’T LIKE

This has been reviewed and sadly disliked.

Underwhelming, SOOO underwhelming. Freaking Essence mascaras do a better job!!!

Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water; I know a tonne of people like this product but it irritated my eyes, tasted incredibly bitter, and performed worst against 4 other micellar waters I tried.

2. Popular makeup product/brand that everyone else seems to hate but you love

It’s not a particular product or something everyone hates but people tend to stay away from liquid eyeliners simply because they are difficult to use. More specifically a flimsy nylon tipped one. It is my single most loved and soul satisfying product and technique…

3. Makeup collab you didn’t like or were not interested in

Although I love makeup, I almost exclusively shop in stores. AND I hate online shopping. AND I am a cheapskate (so I shop 90% drugstore where collabs rarely happen). AND I don’t follow trends unless I am irrevocably compelled to. So although I know most makeup collabs that have happened I don’t concede to purchase ANY of it.

4. Popular makeup step that you never do

Curl my lashes. Simply because I don’t have to. Please don’t take this for conceit… *sweet naive face*

5. Popular beauty influencer you don’t subscribe to/watch

I’ll tell you people I DO watch because I don’t watch the others by default.
> GlamLifeGuru (Tati)
> NikkieTutorials (I subscribed after the recent revelation)
> Simplynailogical (Is this considered beauty?)

I sporadically watch others especially when something interesting pops up.
I am, however, subscribed to most Malaysian beauty YouTubers (the biggest has under 200K subscribers).

6. Popular makeup product/brand that you don’t use/support anymore

See, again, I am a cheapskate and that kind of limits me to the drugstore. I sometimes splurge but it is highly CALCULATED! So if I did boycott a brand or a product it would rule out a lot of options. The closest answer to this would be MAC Cosmetics because ALL the makeup artists that work here in Malaysia universally give out an air of pomposity. Nope! I am not getting treated badly AND giving you money too. Every time there was something I wanted, I walked in, asked for it, paid and left.

7. Makeup trend that you have no interest in trying

Most makeup trends across the Internet originate from a temperate country (fight me, I beg you) so they are geared towards hydrated, glowy skin. WE DON’T NEED THAT IN HOT AND HUMID MALAYSIA!!! As you can tell I have issues. So although I do wear them sparingly, I DO NOT like highlighters and the whole glass skin trend. Nope! All we have to do in the tropics is walk out and we AUTOMATICALLY oil up! VOILA, DEWY SKIN!!! EUGH!!!
NO!!! This isn’t to say that I think one can dispense with moisturising… We were talking about makeup…

8. Makeup product that was better in theory than when you used it. Either swatched better or worked better on others than on you

Pore filling primers. I’ve seen it work in only very isolated instances. Unless you have extremely enlarged pores, it is, to me, a very redundant step. Good powders and concealers will easily remedy pore visibility. I do however believe in sticky primers that help makeup adhere and control sebum production i.e. oil control primers.

And there we go! This was fun! It’s been a while since I did any tags…

  1. I still need to try Essence mascaras but currently going through my own stash at the moment lol.
I love liquid eyeliner too! I used to use the liquid pens a lot when I started but hated how I couldn’t control it as much so when I discovered the nyx liquid liner I was like 😍😍😍
I’ve also tried a few pore filling primers, I liked them for winter but then they started making my skin look and feel so oily so I stopped using them. Eh
