Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

I love Essence products; affordable and the brand offers a wide range of products. Essence is owned by Cosnova which is a company based in Germany. This review is on the I ❤ STAGE eyeshadow base which is an eyeshadow primer.

The product.

Description on the side of the tube.

The wand. Standard doe-foot applicator.

Description:

It is an eyeshadow base that has a very similar consistency to a concealer. There is about 4ml of product and it comes in only one shade.

Price: MYR 15.80

Where to buy: Watsons [updated 14/072017].

Swatch

It is very light in colour and appear even lighter when blended out which makes for good primer since colour would show up nicely.

With some poorly pigmented eyeshadows.

With flash. It seems a little bit more obvious here.

Pros:

It is one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) eyeshadow primers available in Malaysian drugstores.

As seen in the pictures above it really does enhance the colour of the eyeshadow.

Although the colour is pretty light, it does not show through eyeshadow (as in the hand swatch picture).

Blends seamlessly into the skin and it is not patchy or streaky.

Eyeshadow blends very seamlessly on the eyelids with this primer.

Eyeshadow lasts longer on the eyelids (7 hours of wear on my friend and the eyeshadow had just faded a tiny bit).

Helps with creasing of eyeshadow (used it on a friend with eyelids that have lines – and that’s not a bad thing, merely an observation – and it worked!).

Cons:

I don’t know just how long eyeshadow would last but 7 hours of wear is pretty amazing for a drugstore eyeshadow primer.

The ashy look to it might just cause a problem on very deep skin tones if over applied (only the tiniest dollop is necessary).

Rating:

8/10

It’s cheap, gets the job done pretty well and is available at the drugstore! Enough said!

Essence Liquid Ink Waterproof Eyeliner Review

Essence is one of my favourite makeup brands from the drugstore and perhaps even one of the most affordable here in Malaysia.

This is a review of the Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner (waterproof).

The product.

The wand.

Close up of the brush applicator.

Description: Waterproof liquid eyeliner with a fine brush applicator. Comes in 0.1 fl. oz/3ml product. Comes in only black and dries down matte.

Price: MYR 13.90 (and as always, look out for a discount or promotion)

Where to buy: Watsons [updated 14/072017].

Water test

It is waterproof duh!

Oil test.

With some Vaseline (This surprised me; it doesn’t move with oil! It only crumbles a tiny bit).

Pros:

Black and opaque.

Brush is fine for the sharpest application!

Doesn’t skip because the formula is pretty smooth.

Very affordable.

Pretty good staying power.

Cons:

Layering is a mess as it cracks when the skin moves.

Funky smell (or perhaps I got a bad tube)!

Crumbles off sometimes.

You can see it a tiny bit here. I do believe you’d be able to see it better if you watch the video. Just click on the picture and skip to to 3.03 see it.

Rating:

6.5/10

If you can get away with a single layer then this liner would be great! For me, since I do mostly use this with dance makeup or stage makeup, it needs to be done quite thick and thus it cracks. Pass!

Product Empties #16

This has been reviewed (link here).

This has been reviewed (link here).

You should check out my battle of the drugstore micellar water post (link here) to know why I wouldn’t repurchase this.

I was gifted this by a friend and not be an jerk but this made my skin a tiny bit dry. SORRY DANIEL!!!!!!!! It was otherwise alright. I didn’t repurchase this and so I wouldn’t go ahead to actually purchase it.

Again, as much as I love using face masks, I have never really felt a big difference after using one except being rejuvenated and refreshed. And this was no different. I have a couple more of this because it came in a bundle of 4 that cost me a mere MYR10. Repurchase again, no.

Essence Lip Liner Review

(Initially I intended to just reblog but I see more use reverting it to draft, improving the post and then publishing it as a new one.)

[UPDATED REVIEW]

Essence is a company based in Germany that produces quality products at VERY affordable prices! And among their best products and definitely the most affordable ones are their lipliners (I am OBVIOUSLY giving it a high rating).

So pretty!!!

So pretty!!!

The shade names. Obviously I don't have all the available shades.

The shade names. Obviously I don’t have all the available shades.

Ooooo, so pretty!!!

Ooooo, so pretty!!!

And here come the swatches.

Jpeg

Description; A standard lipliner pencil. Comes in 1 gram / 0.035 oz product.

Price; MYR 7.30 (I usually say wait for a discount but at MYR 7.30, come on!).

Where to buy; Watsons [updated 14/072017].

Pros;

Very nicely pigmented.

Very opaque so it will even out hyper-pigmentation on the lips. Both lips will turn out the same colour with this lipliner (if applied all over the lips)!

Glides on smoothly without tugging on the lips.

Does not feather.

Leaves a stain on the lips even after it wears out.

Does not dry out the lips.

Lightweight on the lips so you’d feel like you’re hardly wearing anything.

The price is a huge plus point!

No strong odour or taste.

Cons;

It is not very long lasting.

It isn’t smudge-proof or budge-proof (meaning; it will fade away with eating and licking your lips).

Double con here is that it is a pencil so it needs to be sharpened  and sharpening is tricky since it is so creamy.

Note:

These are very very creamy and that may be something not everyone enjoys. I do know the preference for a drier formula that perhaps lasts longer.

It is a pain to sharpen; can be worked around by placing the pen in the freezer for about 10 minutes…

Rating: 9/10

It’s a preference thing! I love that these are as creamy as they are. Love ’em!

Collaboration; Best Beauty Discoveries of 2016!!!

Again, we’re back at it. Fellow blogger Lakshmi (author of Big is Compatible, link here) and Instagrammers, Geetha (@geethavijaymakeup), and Esther (@estherkaurmann) and I have collaborated on Instagram to bring you our best beauty discoveries of 2016.

15876430_1823261017912139_2051322860705677312_n

I have 9 products all of which I discovered in 2016!

1. Maybelline Micellar Water (makeup remover)

Jpeg

I’ve already reviewed this, link here.

2. Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel Mist

IMG_7394

I really wouldn’t know where to begin reviewing this so I am not going to. If you need a refreshing mist or even something to wet your makeup brush to pack product on, this is perhaps the most affordable mist you could use! Try it! It smells great and refreshes the skin.

3. Catrice Blush Artist Shading Palette in 010 Bronzeclat

IMG_8482

I am not a big fan of the highlighter trend and with that being said the two highlighters in this palette aren’t all that impressive anyway. But the deep matte blusher on the left is absolutely beautiful!!! Have yet to test out longevity but it blends beautifully and is perfect for dark skin!

4. Essence Shading Powder

IMG_4195

I purchased this towards the end of 2015 but only started using this in 2016 so I’d consider this a 2016 discovery. The bronzer is apparently a dupe for the Benefit Hoola bronzer. I’d have to check that out myself in the future. Again, I really don’t care for the highlighter but the bronzer blends easily and is pretty neutral so one could use it to contour as well.

5. Essence Mosaic Blush in 30, Kissed by the Sun

Jpeg

This is too light to show up as a blush on me but, because the mosaics are made up of both shimmery and matte components, they end up mixing into a perfect highlighter shade for dark skin! It is pretty subtle which is why I love this! I can get away with this even with boy makeup. I was gifted this by Lakshmi for my birthday! Thanks love!

6. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Jpeg

This is a perfect replacement for my Stila sponge which I had to part with. This one hasn’t torn yet and it does a good job. I do prefer the Stila sponge over this but this is much more affordable if purchased via an IG shop.

7. Makeup Revolution Blush in Sugar

Jpeg

I got this in a giveaway and it came all the way from England!!! I won this from Rachael, author of Helpless Whilst Drying (link here). Makeup Revolution was previously available in Malaysia but they somehow got lost into obscurity. This blush is amazing!

8. Breena Beauty Eye Essential Kit Makeup Brushes

How gorgeous are those brushes and the packaging too!!!

High quality, vegan, cruelty free brushes! I wrote an entire first impressions post on these brushes (link here). They now offer international shipping!

9. Etude House My Beauty Tool Face Brush 130 Contour

IMG_3233

I bought this in 2015 but only discovered its best use in 2016. I used this first as an eyeshadow blending brush but realised that MannyMua liked using makeup brushes with long loosely packed bristles to highlight, much like this one. Baby, I tried it with this brush and I was sold! I hate using a fan brush to highlight because of its sloppy nature. I don’t own one and don’t think I need to…

So there you go!

My best 2016 beauty discoveries!

PS: There’s one product there that isn’t included in this list but makes two appearances. It is the Essence Make Me Brow eyebrow gel mascara. It’s not here because it made my ride or die list (post link here) and I’ve reviewed it before (review link here).

Product Empties #13 (18 products)

It’s been a while since my last product empties and needless to say it has piled up, 18 products high!!!

MAKEUP!

MAKEUP! (One product is missing but I’ll be sure to insert it).

PRODUCTS TOO BIG TO FIT IN THE FRAME! 😛

Jpeg

I bought this box of 8 pairs of false lashes and put it to good use on my co-stars during a stage play. They were cheap ones but I have forgotten the price. At most 2 to 3 uses then the band sort of starts pulling apart when I tried to take off excess glue. The band is thick and unwielding. Definitely not good falsies but they are thick and give the eyes a dramatic effect. Definitely not repurchasing this one.

How the lashes look.

Jpeg

This is the I ❤ Stage Eyeshadow Base from the brand Essence. I have reviewed it in the past. I plan on updating the post and re-blogging it but meanwhile read about it here! I have already repurchased this.

Jpeg

This is an eyeliner that I bought from Daiso after watching a YouTube video but I didn’t really like it. I just used it to scribble on my hand with all those hand art stuff that I do and also draw on a moustache for a fellow stage actor. I find that it is not as smooth on the eyelids and tugs on the skin. Not repurchasing it (costs MyR 5.30).

Jpeg

This is the Silkygirl Perfect Stay 20HR Eyeliner. I have reviewed it before (link here) and in fact, it has shown up in another product empties post (link here) but the one in this picture was their limited edition packaging that I got for the fun of it. Purchased it at MYR 10. Don’t plan on repurchasing just because I do have other eyeliners to try out.

Jpeg

This is a lip balm from the brand Bell Star which I bought from my trip to Thailand (trip post here and haul post here). It was an ok lip balm, didn’t really do anything phenomenal for my lips nor was it all that bad. Even if I could I don’t think I’d repurchase this.

Jpeg

This is the Muji facial cottons, a cult classic in the beauty world. This is said to be a dupe for the Shiseido facial cottons. I do plan on reviewing it but at the moment, lets just say that I love it. It costs MYR 10.90 here in Malaysia. Yes, I have backups!

There’s one product which is not in the picture because I had tossed it away not knowing that I hadn’t put it into an empties post.

IMG_8121

This is the Elianto Activewear Mascara which I have reviewed before so thank God I have a picture of it (review link here). I wouldn’t repurchase it because I have got at least 3 different unopened mascaras and one I am still working on.

Moving on to the two big products…

Jpeg

This is the Bath and Body Works Fine Fragrance Mist in Wild Madgascar Vanilla. It was given to me by my director as a token of appreciation for starring in his play. I freaking love this scent! Sweet vanilla scent, a lot like some scented lip products and some of you may know that I happen to love this (little things in makeup I love post). Yes, I have repurchased it (for MYR 38; original price MYR 73).

Jpeg

This was from the first haul I ever posted on FiercePaint (link here), I used it once and I hated it because it has an intense warming effect on the skin perhaps due to the fact that it claims to sculpt the body. However, when I started trying to loose weight, I just used by mixing it with my regular body shampoo. I still hated it and I have no idea if it actually “sculpted” my body. Not repurchasing it at the moment but I am very curious if continued usage may help. Hmmmppphhh. Cost; MYR 13.30.

Moving on to the rest of the bunch.

x-default

This is a hand cream from the brand Eubos that was in one of my haul posts (link here) and I just could not get over how oily my hands felt everytime I used it, however, I found better use for it! I used it on my feet! Oh boy did it work wonders! Try it! I may just repurchase it for the feet exclusively (price; MYR 7.90 for a trial size)!

Jpeg

This is the Biore Facial Foam in Pure Mild. It’s ok. Not great, not bad, not going to re-purchase. Costs MYR 10.80.

Jpeg

This is the Ponybrown Happy Sense Baby Whip hand cream. I’ve used up one before (product empties post link here). I like it because they absorb well into the skin and does not feel sticky. I do prefer the previous one but this is nice too. I won’t repurchase this because I do want to try others (cost MYR 19.90 for 3).

Jpeg

I got this Dettol Gold body wash trial pack from a dear friend, Daniel (hi love!!!). He purchased something else and got this for free, so he gave it to me. There appears to be gold flakes in it which, I am pretty sure, for a product this cheap cannot be real gold flakes. It was alright. Body feels clean. Thumbs up! May just purchase the full bottle if it isn’t too pricey.

Jpeg

This is the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner. This was featured in one of my haul post (link here). This burned my skin! But since it was a 60 ml bottle I powered through and finished it. Surprisingly didn’t dry my skin out and my skin did stay blemish free! I would repurchase but I simply cannot stand the burning sensation (original price MYR 13.70, purchased for MYR 6.85).

Jpeg

This is the Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser. This was featured in a haul post (link here) and I’ve used another in the white tube (product empties post link here). I kinda love this stuff. Plan on purchasing the full bottle when there’s a promotion (costs MYR 2.90).

IMG_7146

I pulled this picture from my archives because I forgot to shoot a close up picture! Damn it!!! Anyways, I featured this in a Products I Stopped Using post (link here) and also a hack post (link here). Click those two links to see how I ended up finishing this. Not repurchasing. Costs MYR 11.50, purchased for MYR 9.80.

Jpeg

I got this sample from Facial Malaysia (website link here and Facebook page link here). Nana, the person that runs Facial Malaysia is the nicest person ever! She sent me some skincare products from Paula’s Choice to try out for an honest review exchange and I absolutely loved them (review link here). This one was good too! It worked well and my skin did alright considering that I am very prone to razor burns because I don’t shave unless necessary (I typically trim my beard). If you need more information do check out the Facebook page and the website.

Jpeg

This is the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask which I won from Fiona of Street Love (the most read Malaysia beauty blog! Blog link here). I featured the product in a I Won post (link here). This nice rejuvenating mask revived my tired skin which was suffering from heavy makeup application. About repurchasing, I don’t think I would, only because it is so expensive here!

Phew!!! That was A LOT! Thanks for being with me guys!

Lots of love!

Ride or Die Makeup Tag

I was tagged by the beautiful Lakshmi Praba of Big is Compatible (blog link here). We are from the same hometown which is so amazing and not only is she a fellow blogger but has, of late, become a fast close friend who I can speak to about anything and everything that fuels our passion, especially MAKEUP!!! Do check her out!!!

Anyway, I do have a disclaimer to make. As much as I pride my techniques, I am not a product junkie to say the least. So, as much as I can work out products that I initially try out and use, I haven’t tried out too many product to come up with a ride or die makeup list for every type of makeup product. I do, however, have 5 products that I swear by and 4 of these I have repurchased!

I’ll just randomly name them.

Wet N Wild Megalast Lip Color in E914C Mocha-licious

I bought this in Thailand and featured it in a post (link here). I have been looking for this everywhere here in Malaysia! It is the perfect nude for me!

I bought this in Thailand and reviewed it (link here). This was the only product I haven’t repurchased because it isn’t readily available here.

Ooofff, it is straight up brown with pink undertones.

I swear by this product and if it does not work for you I feel so SO sorry (review link here)!!!

Silkygirl Expert Brow Slim Liner in 02 Dark Brown

This is a recent favourite which I have tested to positive results (review link here). I recently picked another hyped affordable product from Sephora and was surprised that this held up better than that!

IMG_7748

Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara

This is cheap and works! Enough said! I reviewed it already (link here) and there’s even a YouTuber comparing it to a high end product.

The product.

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara

This is a tinted gel mascara and although I have yet to compare it to its obviously high end counterpart, I love this product! I have reviewed already (link here).

YES! I got a new background!!!

My next post is a product empties post (and it’s massive!!).

And after that are pictures updated posts!

And I will catch up with all of you guys very soon!

Have a great day!

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara Review

Essence happens to be one of my most favourite drugstore brand and it is no surprise I put it into my top 5 most affordable Malaysian drugstore makeup brand (post link here). On their website they claim to be cruelty free and apparently they also use minimal animal ingredients.

Previous Essence product reviews (Lipliner, here; Essence Eyeshadow Base, here; Essence Matt Bronzing Powder, here; Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil, here; Essence Lash and Brow Gel Mascara, here).

This product is very similar to another popular brow product that is also named very similarly *wink*.

I love it by the way, and so this review is good!

YES! I got a new background!!!

YES! I got a new background!!!

It is a tiny wand. It is pretty scratchy but nothing I can't work around.

Can you see tiny fibres? That really fills up the brows!

Description: It is an eyebrow mascara with tiny fibres in it that help fill in the brows. It comes in two colours 01 (blondy brows) and 02 (browny brows). I have the darker one, i.e. 02. Contains 3.8 ml product.

Where to buy: Watsons [updated 14/072017].

Price: MYR 12.90 (as always, it’s a drugstore product and you could wait for a discount, but at MYR 12.90 you have nothing to lose!).

Hand swatch. It is cool tone grayish brown. Kind of a perfect match for me.

Tada!!! Filled in and full! And doesn’t it look natural?

I don’t typically use it on its own. I like filling in my brows with a pencil first.

IMG20160603192149

Pros:

Easy to use (not a product you can go overboard with).

The tiny fibers really fill the brows up.

The wand is really helpful and small enough to fit even thin brows.

Long lasting and keeps brows in place well (a good 6 to 7 hours if you don’t sweat or rub your face/brows).

Doesn’t make the eyebrows stiff or crunchy (I hate that! I’d rather use hairspray if a product did that!).

Dries fast.

Cons:

The wand is pretty stiff.

Not waterproof (not necessarily a con).

Not easily available.

Rating:

8.9/10

This rating may change depending on how it fares with the famous high end product. I have yet to try that one but when I do I’ll review that too!!! As for the product itself, it is A-MAH-ZING! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! I already have a freaking backup!

I love this product! In fact, I watched a YouTube review that compared it to a high end product, even going so far as to call it a dupe. I’ll link the video below…
