My Unique Views on the Cult Classic BeautyBlender (Review)

HAPPY CHRISTMAS! Hoping that you had a good one!

Yes, do you like the new title format??? Simply the name of the product and the word “review” after it is so 2019!!! Let’s move forward shall we not?
So today, let’s see what I think about the cult favourite BeautyBlender.

Although
I own two of these sponges, I don’t have a picture of the original outer packaging because the first one was shared purchased with a couple of other friends that came as 5-in-a-pack. The second one was a gift from my bestie Lakshmi. She’s a blogger too! Do check out her YouTube channel (link here) and her blog (link here)! The gift was a BeautyBlender, Too Faced collaboration set. Check out unboxing of the product here (forgive me if you can’t understand, it’s a video in my national language).

So here are the pictures…

The one on the left is the Too Faced collaboration one. The one on the right is the one I purchased.
Dampened. It grows CONSIDERABLY larger!

Description: A tear drop shaped makeup sponge. Although the website suggests dampening the sponge, I know of people who have used it dry as well. As far as I am aware the sponge material is an industry secret. But it is believed to be latex free.

Price: MYR 99

Where to buy: Sephora stores nationwide and on Sephora website (Malaysian website link here).

Before my pros and cons I have a few notes:
> I have used a couple of other sponges and as many influencers, makeup artists and enthusiasts will tell you, I too agree that there is a difference between the BeautyBlender and other generic sponges.
> Most sponges I’ve used are either soft or bouncy, never both. Softness and the delicate texture of the BB serves for a pleasant experience on the skin. The facial skin is soft and you don’t want something hard and coarse working on it. On the other hand the bounciness lends to better product application because the product is distributed and pressed into the skin much more effectively. I’ve personally never felt or used another sponge that is as soft and tender as it is robust and bouncy. I’ve reviewed its biggest competitor, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge (link here) and that one matches the BeautyBlender’s softness but it isn’t quite as bouncy.
> There’s something to be said about the size of the pores on the sponge. Some sponges are too smooth rendering it impenetrable to product making a terrible sponge. Others are too large that they end up eating the product. However, with the BeautyBlender, I’ve never seen a construct that takes away product as needed for a flawless finish and yet doesn’t soak up too much.
> Dyes on some of the more vibrantly coloured BeautyBlender sponges tend to run out the first few washes because the company claims to have used non toxic, water soluble dye. So don’t be alarmed

> All that being said, with the availability of so many sponges in the market these days I’m pretty sure you can get one that provides the same effect as the BeautyBlender. I know I have.

Pros:
> Works beautifully with liquid and cream products! COMPLETELY idiot proof!

> Durable (in fact more durable than any other sponge I own).
> VERY soft and VERY bouncy.
> The teardrop shape is perfect for any kind of blending. The pointed ends help get the narrower parts on the face (around the nose and under eyes) the larger round part helps overall blending on the face.
> Doesn’t eat product.

Cons:
> PRICE! DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN!!!

Rating: 9.2/10
Yes! This is great sponge! BUT, unless and until I have disposable income, I am NEVER going to re-purchase this on my own! I can get like FOUR Real Techniques sponges for the price of ONE!

Oh and, Happy NEW YEAR GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever reason it is you visit or revisit my blog, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara Review

I’ve done a Benefit product review before aka the Benefit Gimme Brow (link here).

This is the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara Review.

The product.

The tube (this is the travel size version). The wand handle is rubberised.

The box has information all around it. These are the claims…

Proof.

Product info.

Concept behind the wand.

Ingredients list.

More info.

Very little information on the tube itself.

The wand really is something!

Description: Mascara that comes in 4 grams or 0.14 oz of product and comes in two shades black and brown. The full sized one comes in more than twice the amount at 8.5 grams or 0.13 oz of product.

Where to buy: Sephora and Benefit boutiques and counters nationwide (a full list is available on the Benefit Malaysia Facebook page).

Price: Full sized; MYR 125, mini; MYR 65.

Lash swatches.

Bare lashes.

One coat.

Two coats.

Pros:

Best curling mascara I’ve ever used! It curls and holds (I don’t have particularly stubborn lashes so this ought to be taken into account).

Lengthens pretty well.

No clumps or lumps.

Nice separation.

Didn’t run or smudge on me (although it does NOT claim to be waterproof).

The wand grabs and coats even the tiniest lashes.

Cons:

YES duh!!! PRICE!!!!

Not much volume.

8.7/10

Much like the Benefit Gimme Brow, do I love this product? Heck yes! Will I ever buy it again! HELL NO!

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation Review

Another MAC product review? What?

We all know MAC; they offer great products for a flawless finish but not necessarily the best to use if you wear makeup on a daily basis. MAC is all about full coverage, highly pigmented, well performing products. This is a review of the cult favourite Studio Fix Powder Foundation. I have two shades and both were preloved products that my cousin passed on to me because one was too dark for her and another was the wrong undertone. I’ve made both work for me! 😀

Outer packaging.

The back of the box. Ingredients list.

Shade name on the top of the box.

The product! So loved!

The label on the other one has peeled off. 😦 But this is how it looks like.

Can’t really tell the difference but the one on the right is NW43, the one on the left is NC42.

A closer look.

The mirror.

The section underneath for the puff.

Excuse the dirty puffs. I usually use brushes or the beauty blender so I don’t bother washing them unless I know I am going to be using it. The puffs are soft and pretty good to use.

An insignificant hand swatch. The colours did not pick up on camera!

But you can tell a tiny bit colour which is the NW 43.

Description: A powder foundation that comes in many shades, in two different undertones, and in 15 grams / 0.52 oz product.

Where to buy: MAC counters; counters are available in Penang, Pahang, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak usually in shopping malls.

Price: MYR 150

This product is my go to and in fact I recently used it for a brow challenge for RiceDolls. Rice Dolls is a makeup community site for beauty creators around Asia; you can find them at RiceDolls.com. I used this powder to cover my under eyes.

Pros:

Full coverage.

Smooth and easy to blend.

Lasts very well on the skin.

Pretty good at oil controlling.

Doesn’t settle into lines if applied in controlled amounts.

The soft sponge is pretty amazing.

Lasts all day long even without a setting spray.

Cons:

It can get cakey if layered too much.

It can settle into lines if layered too much as well.

You will definitely feel it on the skin. Not particularly comfortable to wear.

Notes:

If you do have oily skin, the product does break down a tiny bit but nothing a quick touch up can’t fix. Make sure you blot of excess oil off the face before reapplication.

Rating:

8.4/10

I love this powder foundation but I haven’t used too many different powders from different brands to tell you that this is my holy grail. I’m used to it and this review is all the details I’ve known and experienced.

Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel Review

Yes! Another high end product review! I purchased this last year and completely forgot to put it into a haul.

Benefit is an American based company and all products are made in the USA! This is a review on the very popular Benefit Gimme Brow.

Outer packaging.

Claims on the packaging.

Description, including ingredients. Sorry about the sticker residue on the bottom right.

The product.

Label on the tube.

Wand. It’s really small! And notice the tiny fibers.

Description: Tinted volumising gel for the brows. Comes in 3 grams/0.1 oz product and in three shades, 01 Light, 03 Medium, and 05 Deep.

Where to buy: Sephora outlets nationwide (store list here), Benefit Boutiques (1 Utama, Petaling Jaya; Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur; Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur; Gurney Plaza, Penang).

Price: MYR 125.00, (MYR 145.00 on the Benefit website)

Swatch

Bare brows.

Does make my brows fuller. The tint is showing up a little stronger than it seems in person.

Pros:

Holds brows in place very well!

The colour is good for me (although it may seem a little off in the picture).

Makes brows fuller!

Formula is pretty pigmented for a brow product.

Lasts very well a good 6 to 7 hours of wear before it starts fading and even then product doesn’t just disappear.

Soft, tiny wand for even the sparsest of brows.

Dries fast and matte.

Cons:

Too EXPENSIVE, for 3, THREE grams of product!!!!!

It makes my brows feel a tiny bit stiff although not crunchy.

Not very accessible because Sephora and Benefit stores aren’t available in all states.

Right around the two month mark, the product started smelling funky or perhaps it already does smell like that, I have no idea (but I use it anyway because it doesn’t actually go in my eye).

Do I love this product? HECK YES!!!!!! Will I buy it again? HECK NO!!!!!!!!!

MAC Viva Glam I Lipstick Review

I can’t believe I am finally reviewing a MAC product! MAC is huge in Malaysia; ask someone who knows makeup to name a high end makeup brand and MAC is perhaps the first brand they suggest.

Today I review the first ever MAC Viva Glam lipstick launched in 1994!

So for you people not in the know, the first ever MAC Viva Glam line was endorsed by Rupaul Andre Charles!!! Look it up darlings! LOOK IT UP!!!!

The outer packaging.

Ingredients list on the side of the box.

The name of the shade.

The iconic bullet shaped lipstick tube.

Isn’t that a beauty???

YASSS!!!!!! I love that red!!!!

Shade name on the bottom of the tube.

Swatch.

Description: This particular line of lipsticks comes in several shades and are always celebrity endorsed. Part of proceeds from sales of these lipsticks go the MAC AIDS Fund. MAC lipsticks come in 3 grams/0.1 oz of product. This particular shade has a matte finish.

Where to buy: MAC counters; counters are available in Penang, Pahang, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak usually in shopping malls.

Price: MYR 78

Pros:

Smooth and easy to apply.

Very pigmented!

Very opaque!

VERY long wearing!

VERY comfortable (like you are wearing nothing on the lips).

Does NOT at ALL emphasize fine lines on the lips.

This shade in particular is very complimentary for a wide range of skin tones!

Re-application is perhaps just one swipe and done kind of deal. VERY easy!

Although not particularly moisturising, it doesn’t dry out the lips either.

Cons

Not smudge proof or transfer resistant.

Price (which isn’t that bad considering some drugstore lipsticks in Malaysia can cost up to MYR 59 and I have not met MAC’s worthy competitor although there are dupes in terms of shade and finish).

9.6/10

STELLAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *applause*

Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray Review

I always thought I’d keep FiercePaint exclusively to drugstore products and use LuxePaint (sibling blog of FiercePaint; link here) instead for the higher end products. However, I post very sporadically on LuxePaint and so FiercePaint will now feature high end products as well! *insert kids “yeay” sound*

Setting sprays are typically used as a finisher to lock makeup into place and sometime to give the face a more natural look by reducing the powdery appearance of having layered products.

This is the Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray.

The nozzle. The spray is pretty good.

Description: It is a clear liquid that dries down on the face to lock makeup into place. Kind of like what hairspray is to hairstyling. It is contained in a spray bottle to allow proper application. Comes in 30 ml (1 fluid ounce) for the travel size and 118 ml (4 fluid ounces) for the full sized bottle. I have the travel size one in this post.

Where to buy: Sephora Malaysia (online and stores).

Price: MYR 55 (30ml), MYR 125 (118ml)

I used the spray on my face in this makeup look of mine (post link here) and it would typically last me 4 to 5 hours before showing signs of fading. Even when it starts fading my makeup would still look good.

Pros:

Easy to use.

Doesn’t have a strong scent.

Effective (I used it once for almost 12 hours, I danced and sweat and was surprised to see my under eye makeup still in place!!!).

Does not feel uncomfortable on the face (although you may initially feel the face tightening slightly as the spray dries).

Dries pretty fast for a flawless matte finish (gives dry skin a more skin-like look as well).

Sensitive skin friendly.

Cons:

Pricey (this is going to be a con of every high end product).

Upon initial spraying, makeup may slightly melt (can be remedied by spraying lesser and letting that dry before going in for more).

Rating:

9.5/10

Despite the obvious con (to a cheapo like me), I will ABSOLUTELY repurchase this over and over and over again! My single most favourite makeup discovery of 2015! I love love LOVE this!
