Sephora 10HR Wear Perfection Foundation Review

I have not used many foundations to proclaim that this one in particular beats out the rest. I detail my experience using this product in hopes that it will help another make an informed decision.

The Sephora brand itself has a wide range of products but never really talked about or raved about. This comes as a surprise to me because their price range is lower than most brands available and their products are very inclusive of a wide range of skin tones.

Here I review the Sephora 10HR Wear Perfection Foundation.

The product. I love the frosted glass bottle!

Description at the side of the bottle.

Clear sticker at bottom of the bottle with shade name and code.

A pump! YES! Much appreciated!

The pump actually dispenses product very nicely. No wastage!

Blended. It has a very skin-like finish. It’s not matte nor is it too dewy. The yellow undertone works very well on my face.

Description: Liquid foundation that comes in 25 ml or 0.84 fl. oz. Very darker skin friendly range of shades (if you are Indian, you are sure to find a shade for you in this range!). Medium to full coverage with a skin-like dewy finish.

Price: MYR 78

Where to buy: Sephora stores nationwide and Sephora website online (https://www.sephora.my/).

You can see it being used on my face in this video. Although it seems like a lighter shade, it sinks and blends well into my skin and I typically use a bronzer so that ties in with the whole thing as well.

Pros:

Medium coverage foundation that can be built to full coverage.

Natural looking finish.

Doesn’t settle into fine lines.

Setting with powder removes dewy finish.

Doesn’t cake up even when layered.

Feels light on the skin.

Long lasting (10 hours is a bit of a stretch but depending on your skin type, a good 6 to 7 hours of wear and it doesn’t just break down leaving patches, rather it fades off pretty evenly).

Wide and very darker skin friendly range!

Pump! YES!

Not too expensive for a product from Sephora.

Cons:

Not even a full ounce of product.

May not work for oily skin because of its dewy finish.

Tends to make the skin oil up because of the dewy finish. Setting with powder helps.

Rating: 9.1/10

I have only ever used one other liquid foundation (for every day use) that I have reviewed here (link here). But this one, I LOVE! Highly rated on the Sephora website.

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation Review

Another MAC product review? What?

We all know MAC; they offer great products for a flawless finish but not necessarily the best to use if you wear makeup on a daily basis. MAC is all about full coverage, highly pigmented, well performing products. This is a review of the cult favourite Studio Fix Powder Foundation. I have two shades and both were preloved products that my cousin passed on to me because one was too dark for her and another was the wrong undertone. I’ve made both work for me! 😀

Outer packaging.

The back of the box. Ingredients list.

Shade name on the top of the box.

The product! So loved!

The label on the other one has peeled off. 😦 But this is how it looks like.

Can’t really tell the difference but the one on the right is NW43, the one on the left is NC42.

A closer look.

The mirror.

The section underneath for the puff.

Excuse the dirty puffs. I usually use brushes or the beauty blender so I don’t bother washing them unless I know I am going to be using it. The puffs are soft and pretty good to use.

An insignificant hand swatch. The colours did not pick up on camera!

But you can tell a tiny bit colour which is the NW 43.

Description: A powder foundation that comes in many shades, in two different undertones, and in 15 grams / 0.52 oz product.

Where to buy: MAC counters; counters are available in Penang, Pahang, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak usually in shopping malls.

Price: MYR 150

This product is my go to and in fact I recently used it for a brow challenge for RiceDolls. Rice Dolls is a makeup community site for beauty creators around Asia; you can find them at RiceDolls.com. I used this powder to cover my under eyes.

Pros:

Full coverage.

Smooth and easy to blend.

Lasts very well on the skin.

Pretty good at oil controlling.

Doesn’t settle into lines if applied in controlled amounts.

The soft sponge is pretty amazing.

Lasts all day long even without a setting spray.

Cons:

It can get cakey if layered too much.

It can settle into lines if layered too much as well.

You will definitely feel it on the skin. Not particularly comfortable to wear.

Notes:

If you do have oily skin, the product does break down a tiny bit but nothing a quick touch up can’t fix. Make sure you blot of excess oil off the face before reapplication.

Rating:

8.4/10

I love this powder foundation but I haven’t used too many different powders from different brands to tell you that this is my holy grail. I’m used to it and this review is all the details I’ve known and experienced.

Breena Beauty Face Luxe Brush Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

Breena Beauty is the brainchild of local beauty blogger Sabrina Tajudin whose first release was the Face Luxe Brush. I purchased it in May 2015 and wrote a first impressions post (post link here) upon receiving it.

I am a firm believer in using makeup brushes for a prolonged amount of time before actually reviewing it. A makeup brush should last at least a couple of years before falling apart, especially synthetic brushes. It is ultimately the reason all the makeup brushes reviewed on FiercePaint, I’ve had and used for at least 8 months.

The brush.

There was a hand written note that which I can’t seem to find. Attached are two pictures from the original post.

Moving on!

I especially love the rose gold ferrule.

Description on the back of the box.

Close up of the description.

Left in the design for aesthetics! 😛

Care instructions.

Close up of the bristles.

Densely packed bristles.

Soft synthetic bristles.

Description:

Multi purpose large face brush. Can be used with both powder and liquid products. Designed and made locally.

Bristles: Synthetic. Dark brown with a gradient white tip. Densely packed and very soft. Dome shaped. Muslim-friendly

Ferrule: Rose gold metal. Very sturdy.

Handle: Wood, white paint with the brush name engraved in gold.

Price: MYR 45 (excluding shipping)

Where to buy: Breena Beauty website. Update! They now offer international shipping!

Pros:

Very affordable for such a good quality brush.

Versatile; not too dense for powder application and not too loosely packed for liquid foundation. I have used it for both with good results.

Application is soft and smooth, with no streaking from the brush strokes.

Soft and easy to use.

Because it is rather large, a larger area of the face can be covered allowing for swift application.

The large wooden handle is actually helpful to application because holding and maneuvering becomes surprisingly easier. The flat bottom allows the brush to be stood up on a flat surface.

Sturdy handle and ferrule.

No shedding thus far.

I am giving an extra ‘pro’ for aesthetics because it is quite a beautiful brush and the fact that it comes with a thoughtful hand written note counts too.

Cons:

There is a a little bit of unevenness with the bristles. But update, having trimmed the bristles, none has frayed since.

Before (from the 2015 post). It was trimmed right after.

After (constant usage and washing for almost 2 years).

The paint of the handle has cracked on mine. I do hope Sabrina has fixed this problem in her upcoming batch of brushes.

Some people may feel that the handle is rather chunky for storage and thus not very travel friendly. I love the fact that it can be left upright on a vanity and to me it overrides the chunky handle con.

Bloop Lip/Eye Liner Brush (028) Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

Bloop is a range of makeup and skin care products that is available in Malaysia in certain places. Their stall/booth locations can be found on their website. I will link their web page at the “Where to buy” section. This particular brush was a gift from my cousin when I helped her with a makeup favour a couple of years ago.

The brush.

Bristles up close.

After years and the brand logo is still there.

The brush code.

Description:

It is a thin, fine eye and lip brush.

Bristles: No info.

Ferrule: No info. Although it is most probably metal with a glossy finish.

Handle: Wooden with a natural finish.

(Note: I emailed the company asking for info about the brush but they never replied)

Price: MYR 14.90

Where to buy: Bloop counters nationwide and from their website. A list of places where they have a counter/booth is available from their website (http://bloop-bloop.com/).

Comparison with normal sized brushes. If the picture looks familiar, you may have seen it in the review for the brush in the middle which is Elianto Nose Shading Brush (review post link here).

Comparison with H&M blending brush (on the left; which is about the size of a standard blending brush like Zoeva) and a tiny lip brush by Bloop Cosmetics (on the right).

There! Thin winged liner with the brush!!!

Pros:

The tiny brush allows precise eyeliner and lipstick/lipliner application.

I have used it for a couple of years and it has stood the test of time.

No shedding of the bristles and/or problems with the ferrule or handle.

Sturdy!

Affordable!

Cons:

Their products are so difficult to find!!! So few places to buy them!

A great brush! If you come across Bloop anywhere do give this brush a try. Hey, it’s just MYR 14.90!!!

Elianto Face Powder Brush (H) (01S) Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

Elianto is a brand name that gets mentioned a lot on my blog and I do love a lot of their products because they’re so cheap! I have reviewed products from Elianto in the past here (mascara) and here (makeup brush). Today I shall review the Elianto Face Powder Brush.

The product. The fact that it comes with a brush guard is a huge plus point!

Bristles.

The bristles are very loosely packed.

Very soft.

Description:

Large face powder brush.

Bristles: Synthetic, loosely packed long fibres. It is extremely soft and the colour gradually darkens at the tip.

Ferrule: Metal ferrule with a glossy black finish.

Handle: Black finish wooden handle (I’m assuming).

Price: MYR 35.90 but Elianto constantly offers discounts so watch out for them!

Where to buy: Elianto counters nationwide and from their E-store at elianto.biz.

Pros:

Soft, really really soft!

Because of its long fibres and the fact that is it loosely packed, it is efficient in picking up powder and dusting it on the face very effortless.

The brush guard!!! That is highly appreciated!

It has not shed or frayed thus far and I’ve had it for years.

The ferrule and handle are sturdy.

Cons:

Cleaning is a little bit of a pain because it is a larger brush.

I love this brush. It is a good brush to dust bronzer or powder and also dust off excess powder from the face. If one is skilled enough even blusher can be applied using this brush.

Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel Review

Yes! Another high end product review! I purchased this last year and completely forgot to put it into a haul.

Benefit is an American based company and all products are made in the USA! This is a review on the very popular Benefit Gimme Brow.

Outer packaging.

Claims on the packaging.

Description, including ingredients. Sorry about the sticker residue on the bottom right.

The product.

Label on the tube.

Wand. It’s really small! And notice the tiny fibers.

Description: Tinted volumising gel for the brows. Comes in 3 grams/0.1 oz product and in three shades, 01 Light, 03 Medium, and 05 Deep.

Where to buy: Sephora outlets nationwide (store list here), Benefit Boutiques (1 Utama, Petaling Jaya; Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur; Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur; Gurney Plaza, Penang).

Price: MYR 125.00, (MYR 145.00 on the Benefit website)

Bare brows.

Does make my brows fuller. The tint is showing up a little stronger than it seems in person.

Pros:

Holds brows in place very well!

The colour is good for me (although it may seem a little off in the picture).

Makes brows fuller!

Formula is pretty pigmented for a brow product.

Lasts very well a good 6 to 7 hours of wear before it starts fading and even then product doesn’t just disappear.

Soft, tiny wand for even the sparsest of brows.

Dries fast and matte.

Cons:

Too EXPENSIVE, for 3, THREE grams of product!!!!!

It makes my brows feel a tiny bit stiff although not crunchy.

Not very accessible because Sephora and Benefit stores aren’t available in all states.

Right around the two month mark, the product started smelling funky or perhaps it already does smell like that, I have no idea (but I use it anyway because it doesn’t actually go in my eye).

Do I love this product? HECK YES!!!!!! Will I buy it again? HECK NO!!!!!!!!!

Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

I love Essence products; affordable and the brand offers a wide range of products. Essence is owned by Cosnova which is a company based in Germany. This review is on the I ❤ STAGE eyeshadow base which is an eyeshadow primer.

The product.

Description on the side of the tube.

The wand. Standard doe-foot applicator.

Description:

It is an eyeshadow base that has a very similar consistency to a concealer. There is about 4ml of product and it comes in only one shade.

Price: MYR 15.80

Where to buy: Watsons [updated 14/072017].

It is very light in colour and appear even lighter when blended out which makes for good primer since colour would show up nicely.

With some poorly pigmented eyeshadows.

With flash. It seems a little bit more obvious here.

Pros:

It is one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) eyeshadow primers available in Malaysian drugstores.

As seen in the pictures above it really does enhance the colour of the eyeshadow.

Although the colour is pretty light, it does not show through eyeshadow (as in the hand swatch picture).

Blends seamlessly into the skin and it is not patchy or streaky.

Eyeshadow blends very seamlessly on the eyelids with this primer.

Eyeshadow lasts longer on the eyelids (7 hours of wear on my friend and the eyeshadow had just faded a tiny bit).

Helps with creasing of eyeshadow (used it on a friend with eyelids that have lines – and that’s not a bad thing, merely an observation – and it worked!).

Cons:

I don’t know just how long eyeshadow would last but 7 hours of wear is pretty amazing for a drugstore eyeshadow primer.

The ashy look to it might just cause a problem on very deep skin tones if over applied (only the tiniest dollop is necessary).

Rating:

8/10

It’s cheap, gets the job done pretty well and is available at the drugstore! Enough said!

MAC Viva Glam I Lipstick Review

I can’t believe I am finally reviewing a MAC product! MAC is huge in Malaysia; ask someone who knows makeup to name a high end makeup brand and MAC is perhaps the first brand they suggest.

Today I review the first ever MAC Viva Glam lipstick launched in 1994!

So for you people not in the know, the first ever MAC Viva Glam line was endorsed by Rupaul Andre Charles!!! Look it up darlings! LOOK IT UP!!!!

The outer packaging.

Ingredients list on the side of the box.

The name of the shade.

The iconic bullet shaped lipstick tube.

Isn’t that a beauty???

YASSS!!!!!! I love that red!!!!

Shade name on the bottom of the tube.

Swatch.

Description: This particular line of lipsticks comes in several shades and are always celebrity endorsed. Part of proceeds from sales of these lipsticks go the MAC AIDS Fund. MAC lipsticks come in 3 grams/0.1 oz of product. This particular shade has a matte finish.

Where to buy: MAC counters; counters are available in Penang, Pahang, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak usually in shopping malls.

Price: MYR 78

Pros:

Smooth and easy to apply.

Very pigmented!

Very opaque!

VERY long wearing!

VERY comfortable (like you are wearing nothing on the lips).

Does NOT at ALL emphasize fine lines on the lips.

This shade in particular is very complimentary for a wide range of skin tones!

Re-application is perhaps just one swipe and done kind of deal. VERY easy!

Although not particularly moisturising, it doesn’t dry out the lips either.

Cons

Not smudge proof or transfer resistant.

Price (which isn’t that bad considering some drugstore lipsticks in Malaysia can cost up to MYR 59 and I have not met MAC’s worthy competitor although there are dupes in terms of shade and finish).

9.6/10

STELLAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *applause*

Chu Lip, Lip Balm Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

This is going to be a short review because I have already written a first impression post on it (here). Here are some pictures! The one I have here is Apple Ginger and Tea Rose flavour.

So cute!

Easy to open tab! This packaging is one you will not complain about being difficult to open.

Love that lip shaped indent!

It used to be a perfect round dome!

Description: A egg-shaped lip balm enriched with olive oil, macademia nut oil, and rosehip oil. It doesn’t have any colour or tint to it. It has a lovely fruity flavour and tastes slightly sweet.

Price: Anywhere between MYR 15 to 25.90 depending on where you buy it and factoring in discounts.

Where to buy: Major drugstores like Watsons and Guardian.

Pros:

It glides on the lips smoothly.

It hydrates, soothes (because there is menthol added) and moisturises.

It smells and tastes pleasant.

It effectively remedies cracked lips.

Does not feel waxy or uncomfortable on the lips.

Cons:

The screw-cap has to be handled rather carefully because it can scrape the product and can be potentially over-tightened, spoiling the snap lock mechanism.

Ratings:

9/10

It is a fantastic lip balm! What else can I say?

Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Matte Lipstick Review

[UPDATED REVIEW]

This is a review for the Color Sensational Bold Matte Lipstick and I have the shade Mat6 (Maroon Red) which is the darkest red colour in the line. There are 4 other shades in this range, Mat2 (Sugar Pink), Mat 4 (Vivid Coral), Mat5 (Bold Red), and Mat7 (Nude Beige). I would advice deep, warm, Indian skin toned people like myself to avoide Mat2 and Mat7; these two colours will wash you out! I chose this colour because a deep red colour on the lips is a common constitute of classical Indian dance makeup.

Deep red colour! Gorgeous!

Deep red colour! Gorgeous!

This is another picture taken in which I was wearing the lipstick. However, its tiny because this is a cropped picture from a group shot. You can still see that the lipstick is still there. This picture was taken AFTER a performance which attests to its staying power.

This is a picture taken in which I was wearing the lipstick. I apologise for the tiny picture because this is actually a group shot that I cropped. You can see that the lipstick is still there. This picture was taken AFTER a performance which attests to its staying power.

Description: It is a long lasting matte lipstick that is devoid of taste and scent. There’s 4.2g of product in it; similar to the other Color Sensational lipsticks. The shade Mat6 is a deep maroon red colour which will flatter many skin tones albeit difference in intensity. It also does not appear completely matte.

Price: Anywhere between MYR 17 to 32 depending on where you buy and factoring in discounts.

Where to buy: Anywhere there’s a Maybelline booth set up; Watsons, Guardian, Caring, Tesco, Aeon…

Pros:

It glides on smoothly and does not tug on the lips AT ALL!

Highly HIGHLY pigmented!

VERY opaque; it is a swipe-one-layer-to-get-colour-payoff kind of lipstick.

Long lasting and as you have already seen, it leaves a stain on the lips.

Comfortable on the lips.

Does not emphasize fine lines and dry patches on the lips.

Cons:

It is not smudge proof and hence will transfer.

When wearing dark lipsticks that transfer, lipstick stain on the teeth is a highly possible phenomenon, as is with this lipstick.

Rating:

8.6/10

I simply LOVE this lipstick! When using it I’ll usually do the suck-a-finger trick to remove excess product from my inner lips to avoid teeth stains!
