Maybelline Hypersharp Power Black Liquid Eyeliner

Around since 1915, the brand was named after the founder’s sister who was the inspiration behind the entire thing. Her name was Mabel, hence Maybelline! How cool is that?! Acquired by L’Oreal in 1996, the brand was catapulted into worldwide fame.

Today I review the Maybelline Hypersharp Power Black Liquid Liner.

The product.

It is a brush tip. And very fine.

I could have done a thinner line but the product was drying out so the line skipped towards the end.

Description: A fine brush tip pen liquid eyeliner that comes in one shade of black. The liner itself dries semi matte and comes in 0.5 grams of product.

Where to buy: Major pharmacies and drugstores in Malaysia. Anywhere there’s a Maybelline booth.

Price: MYR 27.90 (wait for a promotion or discount! Absolutely no point buying this at normal price)

Oil and water test.

Holds up pretty well with water. I did rub my hand and although there are gaps missing, it did very well!

It did move with oil but I had to rub pretty hard.

Used the liner doing my 2017 NYX Face Awards entry. You’ll be able to see the sharp winged liner!

Pros:

Black and opaque!

Brush tip is a dream to work with.

Finest, thinnest line could be made.

Absolutely long lasting and budge proof!

Doesn’t skip or tug.

Cons:

Dries out pretty fast.

Rating:

9.2/10

I love this product! Seriously, if you can work a brush tip applicator then this is a dream to work with.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil (49) Review

Etude House is a Korean brand that has been around in Malaysia for quite a while. Although a retail brand their prices are mid-range and some of their products are pretty affordable, especially during their promotions and sales. They offer a wide range of skincare and makeup products (their foundations and concealers however, are geared toward fair skin). One of their most eye catching products is the Play 101 Pencil which comes in a wide selection of colours. The company claims that they are multi purpose, viable from eyes to cheeks to lips!

The pen. It actually comes in a nice little box. This was in one of my haul post and you can see the box there (link here).

Jpeg

The product. This one in 49 is a dark warm brown colour.

Description: A twist up multi purpose pen that can be used as an eye liner, lip liner and others. Comes in many different shades and in 0.5 grams of product. There’s a tiny sharpener attached to the end, commonly found in many twist up pencils.

Where to buy: Etude House stores and booths nationwide.

Price: MYR 46 (prices can go down to MYR22 so please either find it online or wait for a promotion).

Swatch.

Swatched; it can be blended but has to be done before it sets. Once it sets it doesn't move.

Did a water and oil test.

Water test, definitely water proof.

Water test, definitely water proof. The website claims that is is water resistant which is true.

Oil test. It doesn't exactly dissolve but moves when rubbed with oil. This means oily eyelids may just be able to use this without getting the dreaded panda eyes.

Pros:

Longlasting.

Definitely multi-purpose (makes for a gorgeous lipliner or even a lipstick!).

Budge proof.

Twist up pen; I LOVE!

Decent amount of product.

The wide shade selection is a definite plus!

Cons:

Not easy to blend so using it as a blusher and a concealer (which the website claims) is a bit of a stretch.

Has a dry formula which does tug a tiny bit on the skin.

Wears off eventually but does give decent wear time (6-7 hours before it starts fading).

I am kind of obsessed with this pencil. I am down to the last quarter of it and need to repurchase. Do give this a try! They are pretty amazing!

Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil Review

And we’re back to the formulaic reviews…

I guess if you’re still reading it’s because you are obsessed with makeup as I am and I’m sure we’d all admit to it! 😛 😛 😛

If that isn’t the case, you’re dropping by to show me some support and I appreciate that very VERY much.

Thank you! ❤ ❤ ❤

I am a big fan of Essence makeup, evident from my product reviews of their eyeshadow base (here), lipliners (here and here), and bronzer (here).

Today it’s the Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil which I featured in my last post and used it on my friend to create a scary psycho look (post here).

I have it in two shades; black and brown.

Where to buy: Watsons [updated 14/072017].

Price: MYR 12.60 (as cheap as it is, it’s drugstore, so prices are bound to promotions and discounts!)

Some tests.

Rubbing swatch; it does rub off.

Pros:

Pretty black and opaque.

Swatches pretty smoothly.

Twist up mechanism always appreciated.

Very affordable!

Cons:

Not oily eyelid friendly.

Does rub off and when I used it on my friends, it transferred, quite easily.

This is an ok eyeliner; nothing too spectacular about it. I do prefer my Silkygirl twist up eyeliner which, despite it’s shortcomings, is pretty infallible on me.

Elianto Absolutely Resistance Eyeliner Pen Review

I have reviewed Elianto products in the past here and here so I shall not get into the brand itself. Today, it is about their liquid eyeliner; a felt tip one from Elianto to be specific called the Absolutely Resistance Eyeliner Pen. Liquid eyeliner is a Indian dancer’s staple. I have been on the hunt for a felt tip liner that is waterproof and cheap for a very long time. So let’s see how this particular one works.

Moving along, PICTURES!

The name of the product. If you can see there's a liner there that says "Made in Germany". As I have mentioned in some of my older posts, Elianto does source its products from different countries.

Description:

It is a felt tip liquid liner in black (01 twilight black). It isn’t a matte finish liner but it isn’t shiny or metallic either. The felt tip is quite sharp and allows for a nice thin line (swatches below). It claims to be long wearing but does not claim to be waterproof.

Price: MYR 35.90 (I bought it for less than MYR 10 during a promotion).

Where to buy: Elianto stores nationwide and at http://www.elianto.biz/

I have some swatch pictures.

The liner can be drawn as thick or as thin as you would want to.

Water test; it does not melt with water so one could sweat wearing this. I can attest to this because I used it on a friend (picture inserted below) and she performed on stage with no problem with the liner.

I used my finger to smudge the liner with water and it does come off.

I hope the picture is clear enough to see that it is possible to get a nice fine line.

My friend. I hope the picture is clear enough to see that it is possible to get a nice fine line with the liner.

Pros:

Long wearing.

Does not melt off with sweating (mentioned in the picture caption with the water test).

The felt tip pen is easy to control and apply.

The thin tip allows precise application.

If bought with promotion, it is extremely cost efficient! 1.2 ml is about 0.04 fl. oz which is approximately the amount typically present in pen liquid liners. Felt tip liners aren’t the cheapest thing to purchase so this is definitely a plus.

Hasn’t irritated my eyes upon application or during wear.

Cons:

The tip of the felt can dry out during application making it skip a little when applying. Skipping is when a liner drags on the eyelid resulting in gaps in the liner. This can be remedied by pressing down the liner on the back of the hand to allow product to flow out a little before continuing application.

I prefer a matte finish liner so this is a con for me.

The tip of the felt can get a little fuzzy thus making application a tiny bit problematic.

Felt tip liquid liners are more beginner friendly compared to the ones with the wand. This one in particular is a pretty good one if you want to get into makeup but do not want to spend too much on a felt tip liner. However, I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a holy grail product for me.
