Mr. DIY is the Malaysian equivalent of the dollar store. Everything in Mr. DIY is very VERY affordable and the downside of this is that there are bound to be misses. If you know how and where to look, there are some hidden gems there (I have actually found some, here, here, and here).
Alas, this wasn’t one! 😦
I saw this egg shaped sponge which looked a lot like one of those makeup applicators that can be used by wetting it, squeezing out the water and using it damp.
Let’s take a look at some pictures first shall we?
Why I didn’t like it;
The appearance is where the similarities with that certain revolutionary yet expensive sponge end. Everything else is completely different. It is so hard that you could actually bruise yourself trying to bounce it off your face. It does not expand and/or become softer with dampening it. It doesn’t help blend powder or cream products. It tugs on the skin. Because it is so hard you cannot manipulate it to fit crevices on the face.
If you feel that you can tolerate all this then, buy it, be my guest!
What’s good about it;
It cost me only MYR 5.30 (I am sore even about this because the same 5.30 can buy me an entire bag of sponges from Daiso).
Haha the line it’s so hard you could bruise yourself made me laugh. I do love your reviews☺😙 x

Haha… Thank you Dannii! A little bit of an exaggeration, I know, but it is freaking hard! 😛

Even though I like the real technique sponge, nothing really compares to the BeautyBlender sponge.

So I have heard… I just cannot justify the BB price, especially me being a drugstore makeup snob… 😛 😛 😛

I tried a supposedly dupe beauty blender and was fairly disappointed after comparing it with my original blender. Nothing beats the original beauty blender. Keeps me wonder what are the special ingredients they used hahaha!

The dollar to ringgit conversion kind of puts it up there in price. I kinda like the Stila sponge which I use. I ought to try it at least once though, just to get into the hype…

Aw yeah I’ve used some cheapo ones that are really hard. Shouldn’t even be categorized as a SPONGE, more like a brick! 😆 Too bad this wasn’t another gem from the dollar store – it would have been so nice huh!

These sponges ought be loaded into a gun and fired as a torture device! No kidding!!! 😆

Agree with everything you said in this post, Hari. I’ve tried it myself, it’s not squishy at all. Daiso puff works eh? I would love to get my hands on it.

Daiso sponges are cheap ones and they come in a whole bagful. There are few triangle shaped sponges and some square ones. They are those cheap ones which makeup artist use… They won’t last but since there is a whole bagful of it, it would be worth the price…

Mr. DIY is a treasure trove of sorts. Some finds are absolutely fantastic and others are downright rubbish…
