Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Press Powder Review

Second Rimmel review! I loved the previous product (Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal – link here) and let’s see if I love this too. Today, I review the often talked about Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder in the shade 010 Warm Honey.

The product. Very simple packaging.

Product inside.

Description on the back.

A closer look.

Swatch. About half a shade lighter than my skin tone.

Description: Pressed powder that comes in 14 grams or 0.49 oz of product. Here in Malaysia there are about 6 shades which is pretty good because I believe 010 is one of the darkest! Sure enough, 010 is difficult to find because it seems to be sold out.

Ingredients:

TALC, MICA, MAGNESIUM STEARATE, POLYETHYLENE, PETROLATUM, PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, DIMETHICONE, POLYBUTENE, ISOSTEARYL NEOPENTANOATE, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, METHYLPARABEN, COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL, PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM/MINERAL OIL/HUILE MINERALE, PROPYLPARABEN, ZINC OXIDE, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, ALOE BARBADENSIS, POLYSORBATE 20, BHT, BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL, BENZYL SALICYLATE, CITRONELLOL, HEXYL CINNAMAL, HYDROXYISOHEXYL 3-CYCLOHEXENE CARBOXALDEHYDE, LINALOOL, BUTYLPARABEN. [MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR/+/-: TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), ULTRAMARINES (CI 77007).

Where to buy: Selected Guardian and Watsons nationwide.

Price: MYR 14.90 (at this price, waiting for a promotion isn’t even necessary!)

Wear test.

Freshly applied. I used this only under the eyes because it is too light to use all over the face (yes, picture reused from my Maybelline Fit Me foundation review, link here).

After about six hours of wear. The under eyes have stayed almost perfect!

Pros:

Smooth velvety powder.

Easy to apply and blend.

Lives up to the name! It stays matte all day!

CHEAP!

Does not look heavy or cakey with proper application.

Lasts very well on the skin!

Comfortable to wear.

Cons:

Can settle into lines if over applied.

Darker shades of this powder would be perfection. It actually does come in deeper shades but this is the deepest one available here in Malaysia.

Packaging is very flimsy.

No powder puff or sponge.

Can cause flashback if over applied.

Rating: 9.1/10

In spite of the Cons, I LOVE this powder and am giving it a high rating. By the way, I already have a backup, enough said.

Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser Review

Oh, another Maybelline review. What can I say, I love a lot of products from the brand. It is perhaps the first makeup brand people know here in Malaysia and today I review the Baby Skin primer.

The product. Comes in an outer plastic box.

Ingredients list and some instruction on the side of the box.

Ingredients list.

The tube.

The product. Clear silicone-y primer.

Blended out. It does fill up the pores and blur the skin as seen here.

Description: A dimethicone and silicone based primer that comes in 22ml product.

Ingredients: DIMETHICONE, DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, STEARYL HEPTANOATE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, SILICA SILYLATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAISOSTEARATE, PRUNUS CERASUS EXTRACT / BITTER CHERRY EXTRACT [+/- MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR CI 73360 / RED 30 CI 77492 / IRON OXIDES]

Where to buy: Major pharmacies/drugstores nationwide.

Price: MYR 28.21

Wear test.

No primer.

With primer.

After about 7 hours.

I used it with the Maybelline Fit Me foundation, keeping with the brand. No primer side.

Primed side.

It isn’t so apparent in the picture but the side of the primer did break apart while the unprimed side stayed intact. What is obvious from the picture is the primed side is way oilier than the unprimed side.

Pros:

It does fill up pores.

It does blur skin texture.

Generous amount of product for the price.

Cons:

As evident, it didn’t hold up even with my not so oily skin.

Foundation breaks apart and patches of skin shows through when facial oils come through.

It moves too much underneath the foundation and so the foundation does not sit well.

The scent is nauseating to me.

Feels rather uncomfortable on the skin to me.

Rating: 6/10

One expression; ‘meh’. Such a ‘meh’ product. Had it for over a year and it is not even a quarter used.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in 005 Nude

This is my first Rimmel product review and I am excited! After Essence, there’s a competitor in town with dirt cheap prices! Started in 1834, it also is one of the oldest makeup brands still available today. A London based company whose products are made in the European Union, I am surprised they have managed to keep their prices so low. AND, one of their foundation line runs two shades deeper than mine!!! TWO SHADES DARKER THAN MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT MALAYSIAN DRUGSTORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today’s product, I got from Guardian on sale for MYR 5!!! 5 bucks! So anyway, here’s the review!

The pencil. Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal.

Some description. Product is made in France.

Description: Waterproof kohl eyeliner that comes in a variety of shades and in 1.3 grams or 0.04 oz of product. This one in particular is in the shade 005 Nude.

Ingredients: ISODODECANE, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, DIMETHICONE, SYNTHETIC WAX, POLYETHYLENE, POLYBUTENE, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, SILICA, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, POLYGLYCERYL-4 DIISOSTEARATE/POLYHYDROXYSTEARATE/SEBACATE, POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE, CALCIUM ALUMINUM BOROSILICATE, TALC, STEARALKONIUM HECTORITE, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, TIN OXIDE, POLYURETHANE-11, [MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR/+/-:IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), MANGANESE VIOLET (CI 77742), MICA, CARMINE (CI 75470), FERRIC AMMONIUM FERROCYANIDE (CI 77510), ULTRAMARINES (CI 77007), FERRIC FERROCYANIDE (CI 77510), ALUMINUM POWDER (CI 77000), FD&C YELLOW NO. 5 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 19140), FD&C BLUE NO. 1 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 42090), CHROMIUM OXIDE GREENS (CI 77288)].

Where to buy: Guardian and Watsons nationwide.

Price: MYR 10.30 (just try it out! 10 bucks isn’t much to lose)

Swatch (I don’t really have an eye makeup look to show but this liner is amazing!).

Pros:

Extremely creamy and glides on smoothly.

CHEAP!

Pigmented.

Very long lasting!

Very good colour selection.

Cons:

This shade in particular is not completely opaque so a couple of swipes are needed.

Sharpening! Ugh!

Rating: 8.3/10

I am kinda blown away that I got this for only MYR 5! Do give it a go!

Pixy Two Way Cake Perfect Fit Review

Pixy is a flagship brand under Mandom Corporation, a Japanese company that manufactures cosmetics. Mandom Malaysia was initiated in 1997, and became a consolidated subsidiary of Mandom Corporation.

I was under the impression that the brand was actually Malaysian because it is very affordable, almost bordering on cheap. This is my review on the Two Way Cake Perfect Fit powder review. I actually just buy the refills which are much cheaper than buying the compact because the only thing missing is the sponge and a mirror and I have my own! The compact costs twice more by the way.

The product and the outer box.

Description on the back of the box.

Ingredients list on the side.

Instructions in Malay.

Shade name. This is the lighter of the two I own. The other shade is Tropical beige.

Back of the compact.

The two colours I own.

Description: A two way powder that comes in 12.2 grams (about 0.43 oz) and in 5 shades. It comes in a compact form and refills (as you see above). The two way powder means that it can be used wet or dry; either with a dry powder puff or sponge or a wet medium like a dampened beauty blender or cosmetic sponge.

Where to buy: Watsons and Guardian

Price: Full compact, MYR 18.77; refill, MYR 11.22 (even without a discount this is pretty affordable, cheap almost!)

Swatch.

This is perhaps the cheapest powder I can find at the drugstore that has this deep shade. That darker shade is my almost my colour!

Pros:

Good coverage considering it is a pressed powder.

Coverage can be pumped up by using it with a wet sponge.

Blends pretty well.

Helps with oil control even considering it is enriched with squalene oil.

Lasts well throughout the day without breaking apart even with a bit of sweating.

Cons:

A tiny bit unforgiving with deep set lines because it tends to crease over time.

Can’t be used in excess because it can crack if over applied.

People with oilier skin would not be able to use this because, although it does control oil, excess facial oil does break it apart.

Emphasises texture a tiny bit.

Note:

I only ever use this with stage performances since it does appear a tiny bit lighter on my skin when used without a foundation. Which is why I don’t have a wear test picture to show you.

Rating:

7.5/10

I need to mention here that I used this quite often with stage performances and it held up well through it. Do give it a go! The refill can go as low as below MYR 9!

Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless Foundation Review

This isn’t my first Maybelline review. All my other reviews are linked below so you can read up on the brand (which if you don’t already know of, what are you doing on a makeup blog?).

I waited this long to review it because, like the glorious cheapskate I am, I had to wait for the price to dip at least 50% off before I purchased. And I did! One at 50% and the other at 60% off!!! I LOVE IT!!!

The two shades I own.

Description on the back of the bottle. Funny enough, one is made in U.S.A and the other made in China.

Even the description is laid out differently.

One peels off to reveal only ingredients (made in China), and the other peels off to reveal some descriptions (made in USA).

Ingredient list. They are identical.

So I reached out to Loreal Malaysia about the discrepancy in sourcing the products. Why is the same product Made in China and Made in USA, and here’s their response.

Here are some hand swatches.

Hand swatch. The left is 338 (spicy brown) and the right is 332 (golden caramel).

I typically mix the two shades. 338 has too much red in it and 332 is a shade lighter than mine. Mixing the two makes a perfect match.

Description: Liquid foundation that comes in 30ml or 1 fl. oz. Although the original line from Maybelline carries up to 380 Espresso, the darkest available shade in Malaysia is ONLY up to 338 Spicy Brown (unless you purchase online or Instagram shops). Just to bring to light, there’s 340, 355, 356, 358, 360, 362, 365, 368, 370, 375, AND 380! That’s almost half the shades NOT available here in Malaysia! Perhaps there just aren’t enough melanin skinned people here in Malaysia to bring those shades in. Medium to full coverage, matte finish.

Ingrdients: Aqua, Cyclohexasiloxane, Nylon-12, Isododecane, Alcohol Denat, Cyclopentasiloxane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Peg-20, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Magnesium Sulfate, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Titanium Dioxide, Methylparaben, Acrylates Copolymer, Tocopherol, Butylparaben, Aluminum Hydroxide, Alumina, Silica. Glycerin, [May Contain Ci 77891 / Titanium Dioxide Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499 / Iron Oxides]

Price: MYR 49.90

Where to buy: Anywhere there’s a Maybelline display, Watsons, Guardian, Caring, Aeon etc.

Wear test

Freshly applied makeup.

After about six hours of wear. You can see facial oils coming through but that happens with most foundations.

Pros:

True to claim, medium to full coverage. Buildable.

Feels light on the skin.

Doesn’t settle into lines.

Even with the dismal shade range available here in Malaysia, this is perhaps the only line of foundation that runs this deep (yes, if you’re dark skinned in Malaysia, there are NO drugstore options).

Doesn’t seem cakey.

For something so matte, it surprisingly looks pretty natural if not layered up too much.

Doesn’t just melt off with sweating.

Only after about 4 hours of wear, facial oils peek through which in my case is great.

Cons:

No pump!

If you have dry skin, this is NOT the foundation for you because it tend to grab a tiny bit on to dry patches.

Doesn’t really reduce appearance of pores (not on me at least).

Note: Although claims to keep the face matte, it doesn’t really do that for too long. But at the same time getting oily, if you’re someone with combination skin, is inevitable, so it’s not really an issue. This foundation touches up perfectly well. Just going over the face with a blotting paper and touching up with powder revives it back to almost new. If you have oily to really oily skin, the foundation tends to break apart as the oils come through but not in patches, so touching up just revives it!

Rating: 8.4/10

I love this foundation BUT I don’t think I’d repurchase because if I did, I repurchase my beloved Sephora foundation which is actually Tati approved (link here). I do want to try out other foundations.

Essence I Love Colour Intensifying Eyeshadow Base Review

Being the cheapskate I am, Essence is a Godsend! I am a big fan of the brand and have reviewed a couple of products from it. We go all the way back… to products that have actually been discontinued.

Longlasting Lip Liner Review (link here).

Yah, I am a big fan!

This review is of one of the two eyeshadow primers the brand carries here in Malaysia.

The product.

Description on the side of the tube.

Product information.

The wand.

A very standard doe foot applicator.

Description:

It is an eyeshadow base that has a very similar consistency to a concealer and comes in 4ml of product.

Ingredients: AQUA (WATER), CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, GLYCERIN, ISODODECANE, CETYL PEG/PPG-10/1 DIMETHICONE, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, DIMETHICONOL, MICA, DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, POLYGLYCERYL-4 ISOSTEARATE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, CERA ALBA (BEESWAX), STEAROYL INULIN, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TRIMETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, TIN OXIDE, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-T-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77499 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE).

Price: MYR 14.90

Where to buy: Watsons

Swatches.

It is light which is good because it would make colours pop.

Poorly pigmented shadows.

Much more obvious under flash.

Pros:

It is one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) eyeshadow primers available in Malaysian drugstores (even cheaper than the I Love Stage one).

As seen in the pictures above it enhances the colour of the eyeshadow.

Blends seamlessly into the skin and it is not patchy or streaky.

Eyeshadow blends very seamlessly on the eyelids with this primer.

Eyeshadow lasts longer on the eyelids.

Helps with creasing of eyeshadow.

Cons:

Might be a problem on deep skin tones since it is so light.

Rating:

8.5/10

It’s cheap, gets the job done pretty well and is available at the drugstore! Enough said! I even rated this higher against my I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base.

Essence Mosaic Blush Review

It’s no secret that I love Essence as a brand. So naturally I’ve reviewed products from the brand in the past and a lot of my favourite products come from the brand.

Today I review the Essence Mosaic Blush in the shade 30 kissed by the sun.

The product.

The description on mine tore off because of a tab that was stuck to the bottom! UGHH!!!! Next pic is a clear one.

I guess that’s why it is called a mosaic blush; the pattern on the product surface. Not all the mosaics are the same colour. There are three different colours, a light brown and an orange shade both with a pearlescent finish interspersed with light orange slightly shimmery shade.

Hand swatch. I tried swatching each of the mosaic shade individually but on my skin the difference wasn’t apparent.

Description: A powder blush that comes in several shades  and in 4.5 grams of products or 0.15 oz of product (availability is a question and this will be updated; Essence Malaysia did reply to a customer that product is being restocked).

Ingredients: TALC, MICA, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, MAGNESIUM STEARATE, OCTYLDODECYL STEAROYL STEARATE, BORON NITRIDE, DIISOSTEARYL MALATE, HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE, p-ANISIC ACID, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, HEXYLENE GLYCOL, SILICA, MALTODEXTRIN, TIN OXIDE, AQUA (WATER), PHENOXYETHANOL, BENZYL ALCOHOL, DEHYDROACETIC ACID, MAY CONTAIN: CI 75470 (CARMINE), CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77499 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77742 (MANGANESE VIOLET), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE).

Where to buy: Watsons stores nationwide

Price: MYR 15.90

I have a pic below where the product was used.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BS7PjEDAxvs/?taken-by=harivain

I didn’t actually use it for it’s intended purpose. I used it as a highlight. And that is typically how I use it anyway.

Pros:

Lovely shade and gorgeous effect.

Blends out well.

Not too shiny to be used all over the cheek.

Good price for amount of product.

Cons:

A tiny bit powdery.

It does fade off pretty easily which starts at about 3 to 4 hour wear.

This particular shade isn’t really pigmented because the colour doesn’t really show up, even on swatches (unless you are really light skinned).

Rating:

8.1/10

I love this product. I can get away with a tiny amount of this as highlighter during day time.

Maybelline Hypersharp Power Black Liquid Eyeliner

Around since 1915, the brand was named after the founder’s sister who was the inspiration behind the entire thing. Her name was Mabel, hence Maybelline! How cool is that?! Acquired by L’Oreal in 1996, the brand was catapulted into worldwide fame.

Today I review the Maybelline Hypersharp Power Black Liquid Liner.

The product.

It is a brush tip. And very fine.

I could have done a thinner line but the product was drying out so the line skipped towards the end.

Description: A fine brush tip pen liquid eyeliner that comes in one shade of black. The liner itself dries semi matte and comes in 0.5 grams of product.

Where to buy: Major pharmacies and drugstores in Malaysia. Anywhere there’s a Maybelline booth.

Price: MYR 27.90 (wait for a promotion or discount! Absolutely no point buying this at normal price)

Oil and water test.

Holds up pretty well with water. I did rub my hand and although there are gaps missing, it did very well!

It did move with oil but I had to rub pretty hard.

Used the liner doing my 2017 NYX Face Awards entry. You’ll be able to see the sharp winged liner!

Pros:

Black and opaque!

Brush tip is a dream to work with.

Finest, thinnest line could be made.

Absolutely long lasting and budge proof!

Doesn’t skip or tug.

Cons:

Dries out pretty fast.

Rating:

9.2/10

I love this product! Seriously, if you can work a brush tip applicator then this is a dream to work with.

Essence Lip Liner Review

(Initially I intended to just reblog but I see more use reverting it to draft, improving the post and then publishing it as a new one.)

[UPDATED REVIEW]

Essence is a company based in Germany that produces quality products at VERY affordable prices! And among their best products and definitely the most affordable ones are their lipliners (I am OBVIOUSLY giving it a high rating).

So pretty!!!

So pretty!!!

The shade names. Obviously I don't have all the available shades.

The shade names. Obviously I don’t have all the available shades.

Ooooo, so pretty!!!

Ooooo, so pretty!!!

And here come the swatches.

Jpeg

Description; A standard lipliner pencil. Comes in 1 gram / 0.035 oz product.

Price; MYR 7.30 (I usually say wait for a discount but at MYR 7.30, come on!).

Where to buy; Watsons [updated 14/072017].

Pros;

Very nicely pigmented.

Very opaque so it will even out hyper-pigmentation on the lips. Both lips will turn out the same colour with this lipliner (if applied all over the lips)!

Glides on smoothly without tugging on the lips.

Does not feather.

Leaves a stain on the lips even after it wears out.

Does not dry out the lips.

Lightweight on the lips so you’d feel like you’re hardly wearing anything.

The price is a huge plus point!

No strong odour or taste.

Cons;

It is not very long lasting.

It isn’t smudge-proof or budge-proof (meaning; it will fade away with eating and licking your lips).

Double con here is that it is a pencil so it needs to be sharpened  and sharpening is tricky since it is so creamy.

Note:

These are very very creamy and that may be something not everyone enjoys. I do know the preference for a drier formula that perhaps lasts longer.

It is a pain to sharpen; can be worked around by placing the pen in the freezer for about 10 minutes…

Rating: 9/10

It’s a preference thing! I love that these are as creamy as they are. Love ’em!
